United Way day of action is coming to Joplin and Pittsburg

(Joplin, MO/Pittsburg, KS) – United Way of Southwest Missouri and Southeast Kansas is spurring area volunteers into action for local nonprofit agencies on Friday, June 24 during the annual United Way Day of Action — a community wide day of service.

Day of Action is a coordinated event on and around a single day where United Way of Southwest Missouri and Southeast Kansas collaborates with several area businesses and organizations to provide volunteers to complete projects submitted by local nonprofit partner agencies.

“Day of Action is about amplifying the caring power of volunteers in our communities by connecting them with local nonprofits to help complete projects,” said Duane Dreiling, Executive Director of United Way of Southwest Missouri and Southeast Kansas. “The extra help allows our nonprofit partners to focus on the important work they do every day to make our  communities stronger.”

This year, more than 100 volunteers will spend the day completing several different projects for 10 different nonprofit agencies across Southwest Missouri and Southeast Kansas. Projects include everything from light landscaping, painting, cleaning, and organizing, to working on raised community gardens, sorting thrift shop items, and holding donation drives for food and  other basic necessities, as well as various other needs that often go unmet.

“It’s truly amazing to see the lasting impact that volunteers can have on their community in just  one day of giving back,” said Dreiling. “Day of Action is really a snapshot of what United Way  does all year long – mobilize people around solutions to build stronger communities.”
