The McCloskey couple is still in hot water
The Missouri supreme court denied Mark and Patricia McCloskey’s bid to overturn their potential permanent law suspension following an incident that took place in 2020. After the death of George Floyd a number of protesters entered the gated community that the McCloskey’s lived in to protest the killing outside the then-mayor’s home.
The McCloskey’s, who are both practitioners of the law, then went onto their front lawn each brandishing a firearm aimed at the protesters. The couple pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges in June over the incident. The Missouri supreme court put their law licenses on probation for a year and must provide 100 hours of pro-bono legal services.
The couple tried to fight the charges arguing that they were exercising their lawful right to bear arms in order to protect themselves and their property. The courts, however, saw otherwise and upheld their suspension. Mark McCloskey is currently one of several candidates that is running to fill Roy Blunt’s seat as Blunt bows down from the role.
