Hawley raises questions about gas prices to the Secretary of Energy
WASHINGTON — In a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing today, Missouri U.S. Senator Josh Hawley asked Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm about the rising price of gas. Currently the national average price of gas is $4.94. Some experts predict that it could grow as high as $6 a gallon by August and Hawley was looking for answers.
Hawley asked Granholm whether or not she believes the Biden administration was in part responsible for the rising price of gas. Granholm said that she believes the price increase is due solely to global affairs issues at which point Hawley noted a few reasons he believes the prices have been raising which include: Biden reentering the Paris climate accords, halting the keystone pipeline, halted leasing programs in Anwar, starting a halt on all new gas leases and drilling permits, and a series of other domestic causes.
Granholm pushed back noting that the US is in the same boat as everyone else, and that prices have been raising in virtually every country around the world. But Hawley was looking for answers not excuses saying, “I have to say madam secretary your answers are insulting and they are insulting to the good people of Missouri who are looking for answers.”
