PETA comes to Parsons
Upon hearing the heart breaking story of Midus a dog found abandoned and malnourished in a Parsons, Kansas back yard People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, or PETA, has decided they are needed in the area.
PETA hit local TV airwaves with an emergency message urging action for dogs who are in danger saying they are too often, “forgotten, as if they were invisible.” This message was followed by a series of images depicting neglected and chained animals. The ad continued on to say, “Please see these dogs and help free them from a life of despair, before it’s too late. Dogs don’t belong at the end of a chain.”
PETA’s senior vice president of cruelty investigations said, “Midus was rescued in the nick of time, but there are countless other chained dogs who will suffer out of sight in back yards during this summer’s scorching heat.”
PETA has had a controversial history of advertisements and policies in the past and has gained national criticism but their recent stunt has yet to garnish much pushback.
Midus’ owner, 38 year old Alan Jeffrey Wetherell of Parsons, was eventually tracked down by local law enforcement and arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty. You can read all about the story here.
