Animal abuser has been caught
Community service officer Ricky Thompson was called onto the scene of a neglected and abused dog named Midus found abandoned in the backyard of a Parsons, Kansas home on Monday. The hunt for the person responsible for this act of animal cruelty has ended.
On May 12, 2022, Community Service Officer Ricky Thompson and Officer Donald Joy followed up on the Animal Cruelty case. Officers were able to identify the owner as Alan Jeffrey Wetherell, 38 of Parsons.
CSO Thompson and Officer Joy located Alan and he was arrested on suspicion of Animal Cruelty. Alan was transported to the Parsons Police Department without incident. The case was sent to the City Attorney for prosecution.
Parsons Police Chief Robert Spinks said, “I am glad this case was brought to a speedy end and an arrest. I hope that Mr. Wetherell learned a valuable lesson from this incident and makes sure that it doesn’t happen again. He is in the capable hands of the courts at this point. I appreciate all of the positive and supporting comment and note from the public. It really shows that the community supports our hard work and efforts. So much so that there have been a couple of citizens that have stated they would be interested in fostering or adopting Midus.”
CSO Thompson said, “I just want to remind any Parsons citizen that if you have a pet, please be responsible and take care of it, we owe them that much. If you can’t care for them, please call me and we will see what we can work out for you and the best interest of the animal.”
