Mercy Joplin names Hatfield Chief Medical Officer
JOPLIN, Mo. (May 9, 2022) – Dr. Jesse Hatfield, emergency department medical director, has accepted the role of Mercy Hospital Joplin’s chief medical officer (CMO).
Dr. Hatfield will split his time between administrative duties as CMO and continue to see patients in the emergency department.
Dr. Hatfield has worked for Mercy for six years, the last three at Mercy Joplin. His current leadership position in the ER began in February 2020.
“I am a problem solver and I like the challenge of this new role,” Dr. Hatfield said. “One of my goals is to be a voice of the physicians. I hope to both provide their input to our administrative team and bring information back to physicians and other providers and improve communication all the way around.”
Dr. Hatfield attended the University of Oklahoma for his undergraduate degree before attending medical school at the OU College of Medicine in Oklahoma City. He completed his emergency medicine residency at the University of Oklahoma at Tulsa.
“Dr. Hatfield has proven himself a leader,” said Jeremy Drinkwitz, Mercy Hospital Joplin president. “His clarity, attention to detail and involvement in key areas of focus are vital to our highest priority – the patient experience.”
As CMO, Dr. Hatfield’s responsibilities include managing processes and policies while maintaining patient safety and quality initiatives.
