JPD set to conduct alcohol compliance checks with Safe Teens Coalition support
Training program for retailers slated for May 18th
JOPLIN, MO – The Joplin Police Department will be conducting alcohol compliance checks in the near future in the Joplin area with the support of the Joplin Area Safe Teens Coalition.
The purpose of these checks is to assess the level of availability of alcohol within our community and prevent the sale of alcoholic beverages to minors, thus creating a safer and healthier environment for our youth.
Underage buyers, working under the supervision of law enforcement, will come to businesses soon and attempt to purchase alcoholic beverages. Employees and employers caught selling alcohol to minors will be cited, and the case will be referred to the appropriate agencies for prosecution.
The maximum penalty for selling alcoholic beverages to minors in the State is classified as a misdemeanor and includes up to $1,000 in fines and up to a year in jail.
The Alliance and Community Partnership of the Ozarks will host a Responsible Beverage Service Training to educate local retailers ahead of these compliance checks. This 90-minute training is free and designed for anyone who sells alcohol products, including owners, managers, clerks, and bartenders. Owners and managers are encouraged to attend with their employees.
The event will be held at 10:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., on Wednesday, May 18th, at the Joplin Public Library in the Ned B. Chase conference room.
