Charges filed against former Delaware County Sheriff Mark Berry
DELAWARE COUNTY, OK – Use of a county fuel card and a trip to purchase a couch have led to charges being filed in Cherokee National Tribal Court against former Delaware County Sheriff Mark Berry.
The charges came on Friday and, although bail was set at a reported $5,000, Berry is not jailed.
The action came after a county fuel card was reportedly used to purchase gasoline (at a cost of less than $50) for a vehicle owned by the Sheriff’s Department.
The vehicle then was reportedly driven out of state, allegedly nearly 1,000 miles, to pick up a couch.
Court documents show that deputies told investigators Berry asked them to help unload the couch at his home.
Berry became Sheriff in 2020 but resigned about a year after that following a confidential executive session meeting with Delaware County Commissioners. No details were released on the resignation at the time.
