BBB to Businesses: Watch out for fake bills
Warnings have been going out to local business owners this week about fake invoices.
According to the Better Business Bureau, a business in Neosho recently received a bill from what supposedly was a legitimate company for services provided for their website domain.
The fake company asked the business to “pay up.”
“Thankfully, this business knew it was not their website, ” Stephanie Garland, regional manager of the Better Business Bureau,” comments.
“They’ve never paid for this type of service, they’ve never even heard of this company,” she adds. “They contacted the real company that handles their website and they said it was a scam.”
Garland says it’s another reminder for businesses and individuals to be very careful with invoices or supplier bills.
She says a year ago, a Joplin business found out it had been paying a bill to a fake company for the last twelve years.
