City Council discusses possibility of hiring city park rangers
Vandalism in City Parks took center stage at the Joplin City Council meeting Monday night.
City officials say citizens have been concerned about vandalism in park bathrooms and about vagrants and alleged drug users frequenting the recreation areas.
The city has suggested the possibility of hiring two park rangers at a cost of $32,500 a year. The total approximate cost for pay, vehicles and equipment could come to just under $200,000 a year.
No decision was made at the meeting, which was the first for new members Kate Spencer, Josh DeTar and Mark Farnham.
The subject is expected to be revisited in the future.
