BBB: Watch out for the chat bot scam

Con artists are using phony “wrong number” texts to lure victims into conversation and falling for a scam.

That's according to Stephanie Garland of the Better Business Bureau.

You receive a text that reads something like this: “Hey is this John? It’s Amanda. Are you free to meet up?

"Your new friend which is a chat bot, will try to get you to sign up for specific websites to see more explicit photos of this person," says Stephanie Garland of the BBB."

"That may involve offering a credit card number," she adds.

She says if you provide with your card number and other personal information, you're in serious jeopardy of fraud and identity theft.
