Joplin death investigation

UPDATE: The victim has been identified as 20-year-old William Patton.

Joplin Police investigating a homicide.    

Just before 2:30 Wednesday morning, a 9-1-1 call reported hearing gunshots near 24th and Wall Avenue.   

Deputies with the Jasper and Newton County Sheriff Departments responded to the scene finding an adult male with gunshot wounds.  

The victim was taken by EMS to a local hospital and was pronounced dead.
