Joplin City Council to consider construction incentive plan Tuesday night
Revitalizing neighborhoods in Joplin: That’s one of the issues members of the Joplin City Council will be talking about Tuesday night.
Under a proposed plan, builders of new homes could receive incentives of up to $40,000 from the city if a new home replaces an existing family home and if the design complements neighborhood aesthetics.
Also, the owners would have to agree to not rent the homes for a period of ten years.
The incentives would come from a $1 million dollar fund derived from a tax narrowly approved by voters in the city last November under the name of “Proposition Action.”
However, for the time being, the monies would be pulled from the city’s General Fund because the tax has not yet generated the requisite $1 million to fund the incentives.
If passed, the City will start accepting applications on April 1st. Up to five homes will be included in the first round of incentives.
The Council meeting gets underway at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall at 602 S. Main.
