Enjoy St. Valentine’s Day on Monday
but don't let your guard down . . . .
Monday is St. Valentine’s day, a special day for lovers, married couples and all the special people in your life.
But don’t let your guard down:
Love may be in the air today but the Better Business Bureau says if you’re looking for love online, don’t just trust the first person who comes along.
Stephanie Garland of the BBB says her organization is getting reports about people contacted out of the blue by scammers via text, social media, email or other platforms.
Sometimes they might even put out a few dollars buy you candy or flowers before they try to take your money.
“If you go ahead and you’re meeting somebody online this way, it’s probably not a real person,” Garland cautions.
“If you get a message from a scammer and you click on that website, it can actually download malware on your device,” she explains.
Garland says if the person is unwilling to meet, keeps making excuses or asks you for money, those should be red flags – not red roses – this Valentine’s Day.
