A foster mom from Carthage, who abused two young girls in her care, has been sentenced to spend seven years in prison.
43-year-old Jennifer Chambers plead guilty to two counts of felony child abuse after an incident in November of 2020 when she took a 3-year-old girl to a local hospital. Medical staff found the child had numerous bruises and several cuts on her face and head that were healing. She had to be flown to Children’s Mercy in Kansas City where doctors found she had lacerations to her spleen and a possible brain bleed.
Investigators conducted a well-being check on an 8-year-old girl in her care and discovered one of her eyes was swollen shut, several areas of bruising, two broken fingers and other ailments caused by Chambers. She also was taken to Children’s Mercy for treatment.
Court documents say Chambers told investigators that the two girls fell frequently. She also had “a history of domestic assault investigations”.
