Neosho Schools cancel class due to sickness

Neosho’s School District is canceling classes for the rest of this week due to an increase in illnesses among staff. Read the letter sent to parents below:

“NSD Parents & Team Members,

As of today we are at 123 NSD Team Members absent due to illness across buildings and departments. In order to give our staff time to get back to health, we will be cancelling school for the remainder of the week. Monday is a scheduled day out for students to observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day, so students will return to school on Tuesday, January 18, 2022.

These days will be observed as weather cancellation days so all virtual and in-person classes will be cancelled, along with extracurricular activities. A list of cancellations will be maintained and can be found at the top of the neoshosd.org homepage.

We have a team who is working closely with Bright Futures Neosho to ensure food bags are available for students in need during this closure. Bags will be assembled and sent home today.

Please note that buildings will be closed so they can be sanitized thoroughly during the cancellation period. If you need to reach your teachers, please contact them through email or other communication tools supported by their individual classrooms. If you have illness in your home to report during the cancellation period, please report those via email to your building principals.

We want to reiterate that while we have not reached the COVID illness percentage outlined in the NSD United Plan to close down buildings/district, there is a significant amount of other illnesses contributing to our staff’s ability to serve students effectively and safely. We are very proud of what our team has done so far to keep operations running. NSD Team Members in our buildings have stretched themselves to meet the needs of our students and community. We believe this is the best option for the health and wellbeing of our team.

We encourage district families and team members to stay home during this time frame so as not to further the spread of illness.
