Pittsburg City Commission approves body camera purchase
A purchase approved by the Pittsburg City Commission will improve transparency for that community.
The Commission has approved the purchase of 32 new body cameras for the Pittsburg Police Department.
The cameras, which have become a standard for the law enforcement industry, are being paid from funds garnered through the Pittsburg Public Safety Sales Tax.
Police officers wear the cameras as part of their uniforms to document what they see as they perform their duties. They are generally worm law enforcement officers who are interacting with the public but not officers working in courtrooms and secure areas, administrators and civilian staff members
The Pittsburg Department expects to integrate the body-cameras next spring.
