Missouri minimum wage to go up as of January 1st
It’s almost time for the Missouri minimum wage to go up again.
The minimum is currently $10.30 an hour but, on January 1st, the increase will put the state’s minimum wage at $11.15 per hour.
The wage is going up because of Proposition B, passed by voters in 2018, that mandates annual wage increases of 85 cents and hour each year through 2023.
Employees getting tips will make at least half of the minimum wage plus whatever it takes to bring their entire earnings to minimum wage or more.
Overtime compensation must be paid at least 1.5 times the employee’s regular rate for anything over 40 hours during a work week.
But ….the rules don’t apply to everyone. Workers in retain and service businesses with annual gross sales lower than $500,000 are not included. Agricultural workers and many public employees are also not included.
Prior to Proposition B, Missouri’s minimum wage hadn’t been raised in almost a decade. In 2016, Missouri’s minimum wage was just $7.65 per hour.
