City of Joplin invites public to arts and crafts show on Thursday

The event will run from 4 pm to 6 pm

The City of Joplin’s Youth Council invites the public to an arts and crafts show that will take place on Thursday, November 18.

The event will take place in the Joplin High School Library from 4 to 6 pm.

Thanksgiving books will also be read.

A news release from the City of Joplin says, “Families with children from about age 3 to 10 are encouraged to join them for this unique opportunity. Members also ask people to bring a book to donate that will be passed along to organizations working with children and reading.

The Youth Council was formed in 2019 after City Council members heard a presentation from the National League of Cities focusing on the youth’s vitality within a community and the importance of providing them service opportunities. Mayor Ryan Stanley and Council member Anthony Monteleone volunteer to work on a planning committee with City staff and local school representatives to develop the parameters and focus of this advisory board.

Membership on the Joplin Youth Council is offered to high school students from Joplin’s public and private schools encouraging them to apply for this unique opportunity. Members are required to be Joplin residents and enrolled in an upper grade of level 10 through 12. ”

Terms for the Joplin Youth council expire after one year.
