More than three-quarters of St. Louis and St. Louis County’s poorest residents live in housing they can’t afford, according to a report released by the Deaconess Foundation on Monday.
The St. Louis Post Dispatch reports it is the 1st time that grades have been given to housing in the region.
The report, funded by the faith-based nonprofit gives the city and county a C on affordable housing, as a whole.
But some area residents fare far worse:
The study gave Fs to housing options for families making less than half the region’s median income, for Black households and for renters.
Meanwhile, more than 80% of the region’s wealthiest residents and more than 80% of white homeowners live in housing the report deems affordable.
