Carthage man to stand trial in connection with fatality accident

Retired MSSU professor killed in early July . . . .

Robert McDermid had retired as head of the psychology department at MSSU in Joplin.

But he didn’t have long to enjoy it.

On July 3rd, he died in a car wreck at 7th and Duquesne Road after being hit by a driver said to be fleeing police.

Now, a judge has determined there is probable cause for 36-year-old Kenton C. Cowgill, III of Carthage  to be tried on felony murder charges in connection with the crash.

That was the determination made late last week in Jasper County Circuit Court.

Cowgill will stand trial for 2nd degree murder, DWI resulting in death, resisting arrest and 2nd degree drug trafficking.
