MSSU and City to hold Celebration and Scholarship announcement event set for Wednesday

An event celebrating the announcement of a new scholarship and an event recognizing the completion of the inaugural Firefighter Certificate course is planned for 10 AM Wednesday, October 13.

The event will take place at the Joplin’s public safety training facility located at 5102 Swede Lane.

A partnership was made earlier this year with the College of Health and Sciences at Missouri Southern State University and the Joplin Fire Department and the City of Joplin to create a regional fire academy.

During the recognition ceremony, the first recipient of the Steve Fierro Endowed Memorial Scholarship award will be announced.
