Senate passes resolution proposed by Missouri Senator Josh Hawley to honor fallen soldiers
Corporal Jared Schmitz and 56 other Missourians gave lost their lives while serving in Afghanistan
Wednesday night, the Senate passed a resolution by Missouri US Senator Josh Hawley to honor Marine Corps Lance Corporal Jared Schmitz of Wentzville, Mo, and the 56 other Missourians that gave their lives during the war in Afghanistan.
Fellow U.S Senator Roy Blunt, also from Missouri, co-sponsored the resolution.
Additionally, Missouri Representative Blaine Luetkemeyer introduced a companion resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Hawley said in a statement that these Missourians paid the ultimate sacrifice overseas, and the United States is eternally grateful for their service.
Senator Blunt echoed Hawley’s sentiment, saying these heroes did the most difficult thing one can do in Afghanistan – risk their safety to protect and defend our country and its values.
Representative Luetkemeyer followed by saying, “We have the privilege of living in a free country because of these incredibly selfless servicemembers and are forever indebted to them and their families for their bravery.”
