Reason for Joplin forming Equity, Diversity and Inclusion committee

What is the reason for the forming of the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion committee by the city council?  According to Joplin Mayor Ryan Stanley the committee is being formed for good reasons.   “It’s not to try and be this giant boogie man to come and judge us (Joplin).  It’s mainly to just say are we doing a good job of this.  And we feel ya we are.  Glad we asked it.”
