KDOT starting process for implementation of vehicle charging stations across state highways

Interested groups should respond by Friday, September 24

The Kansas Department of Transportation started the process of implementing electric vehicle charging stations along the state’s most traveled highways yesterday.

The organization announced a Request for Information in advance of a Request for Proposal, which would allow the installation of electric vehicle charging stations.

A news release from KDOT states, “Through this RFI, KDOT seeks to receive input from industry stakeholders and potential applicants that will help develop program criteria for awarding funding toward the installation of EV charging equipment. KDOT has identified approximately 12 preliminary locations for the installation of Direct Current Fast Charging (DCFC) stations (50 kW or greater) to improve public access to charging stations every 50 miles along primary corridors.”

Proposed electric vehicle charging stations are located along I-70 at  Oakly/ Grainfield/Grinnell; WaKeeney; Russell; Ellsworth/ U.S. 156 exit; Abilene to Junction City; Manhattan to Paxico; on I-35 Ottawa,; Emporia; Cassoday to Matfield-Green; Belle Plain – Wellington; I-135 – Newton/North Newton; S. 81 Concordia.

Responses to this RFI must be emailed to kdot.designcontracts@ks.gov by 5 PM on Friday, September 24.
