Wyatt Earp Park groundbreaking Wednesday in Lamar
Wyatt Earp was a well-known gambler and lawman in the Old West.
One of the cities he helped keep the peace in was Lamar, Missouri where he served as Constable in 1869-70.
He is probably best-known for his participation in the famous “Gunfight in the O.K. Corral” in Deadwood, Arizona in 1881.
Now, the Barton County Chamber of Commerce is raising funds to develop a Wyatt Earp Park in Lamar.
A groundbreaking and ribbon-cutting ceremony is slated for 12 noon Wednesday on the northeast corner of the Lamar square.
Chamber officials in Lamar say the park, which will include a statue of Earp and his wife, will be a fantastic tourist attraction and local gathering place.
Wyatt Earp died in Los Angeles in 1929.
