Oklahoma City schools require masks, with opt-out provisions
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) – The Oklahoma City school district will require students and staff to wear masks starting next week, but with opt-out provisions.
Superintendent Sean McDaniel said Friday that masks will be required except for those who submit religious, medical or approved personal objections to mask wearing.
McDaniel also said school employees with proof of being fully vaccinated by Nov. 15 will receive a $1,000 stipend.
McDaniel said he believes the requirement does not violate a state law banning school mask mandates because it prohibits school boards from adopting mandates and he, not the board, is issuing the order.
Santa Fe South public charter school in Oklahoma City adopted a similar mask requirement on Wednesday
