Oklahoma school leader, governor to talk about emergency order
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) – Oklahoma’s public schools superintendent says she will meet this week with Gov. Kevin Stitt to discuss whether he will issue an emergency order because of rising coronavirus cases, which would allow schools to require masking.
Superintendent Joy Hofmeister said Tuesday she’s not aware of any district mandating masks in violation of a state law passed in May.
Stitt has said he sees no need for an emergency order. The governor’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment Tuesday.
The state health department on Tuesday reported a seven-day rolling average of 2,025 new cases daily, up from 1,158.9 on July 25.
