Boy drowns in Elk River Friday afternoon

A six-year-old Kansas City boy has drowned in Elk River.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the child drowned in the river about a mile and a half north of Noel just before 2 o’clock Friday afternoon.

According to the Patrol report, the boy waded out into the water and could not return.

He was pronounced dead at Freeman Neosho Hospital.

It was the 14th drowning in the Highway Patrol Troop D area of southwest Missouri so far this year
