Carthage voters to decide fate of city tax on online purchases
In Carthage, voters will be asked on August 3rd to approve a proposed use tax that would essentially collect the Carthage city sales tax on online and out of state purchases.
Shoppers in Carthage already pay 8.2 cents in taxes on every dollar in state, county and city sales taxes.
An estimated $250,000 to $400,000 would be collected each year for the city if the tax passes.
Missouri Gov. Mike Parson recently signed a bill that would require many out of state online stores to collect Missouri state sales tax.
