Joplin bank robbery suspect apprehended

The alleged suspect in the armed robbery of the Great Southern Bank in Joplin Monday has been taken into custody. He’s also alleged to have robbed a bank in Louisburg, Kansas, just hours before.

On Tuesday, members of the Miami County Sheriff’s Office, Joplin Missouri Police Department, and the Kansas City Missouri Police Department were able to successfully identify, locate and apprehend a suspect.

The identity of the man will not be released until formal charges are made. No additional information will be made available until then.

The Miami County Sheriff’s Office said that a white male, approximately 5’ 5”, wearing a black facemask, blue and white KC hat, dark-colored shirt, and blue jeans robbed a bank in Louisberg around 10 am Monday. The suspect fled the scene in a white 4 door passenger car.

That matched the description of the man that displayed a gun to an employee at the Great Southern Bank at 13th and Rangeline just before 1 pm Monday. The suspect then fled the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash. No employees were physically harmed during the incident.

More details will be added as they are released.
