Man from Girard arrested following stabbing
The incident happened just before 3 AM Sunday morning
On Sunday morning, July 18, 2021, at approximately 2:51 AM, law enforcement officers from the Pittsburg Police Department were called to Ascension Via Christi’s Emergency Department in reference to a 40-year-old male victim who was brought in with multiple stab wounds to his face and abdomen. Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division also responded to assist with the investigation.
Several witnesses were interviewed, and the investigation revealed the incident occurred within a vehicle in the 400 block of west 6th Street, in Pittsburg. Evidence was collected and a suspect was identified as 50-year-old Jose Flores-Velez, of rural Girard. With the assistance of Deputies from the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, Flores-Velez was located at his residence and was taken into custody without incident around 2:20 PM. Mr. Flores-Velez was also found to have an arrest warrant out of Crawford County District Court for a Bond Violation on an original charge of Domestic Battery.
A search warrant was executed at Flores-Velez’s residence, and evidence related to this incident was recovered.
Flores-Velez was placed under arrest for Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon, and for his warrant out of Crawford County District Court. Mr. Flores-Velez was transported to the jail at the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office for booking, and is currently being held without bond.
The victim in this case was later released from the hospital after receiving treatment.
