Teenager drowns near campground in Noel

In Noel, a teenager has drowned near a local campground.

The 14-year-old boy went missing around 8:30 p.m. Friday night at Wayside Campground.

The Missouri State Highway patrol said the teenager had been playing in shallow water but went  into deeper water and drowned.

Highway Patrol and Noel Fire Departments units responded.

The boy was taken to a hospital in Joplin where he was pronounced dead about two hours later.
