Joplin Police investigate Sunday stabbing

The Joplin Police Department is investigating a holiday stabbing in a Joplin park.

On July 4th at 3:10 pm the Joplin Police Department Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call of a stabbing at Ewert Park at 900 E. 5th Street in Joplin.

Officers responded  and found and adult male victim with multiple stab wounds. Joplin Police Officers and medical  personnel with METS Ambulance and Joplin Fire Department provided care on scene before the  victim was transported to a local hospital where he was listed as being in stable condition.

During the on scene investigation, officers were able to identify the suspect and took him into  custody near 5th Street and Kentucky Avenue.

He was identified as Joe L. Guevara, age 32, and  is listed as being homeless. Charges were sought for Assault in the 1st Degree and he is currently  being held in the Joplin City Jail without bond.
