One man dead, a second in custody following morning crash at 7th and Duquesne
One man is dead following a crash this morning at East 7th and Duquesne Road in Joplin.
The driver of one car involved, reportedly a 36-year-old male from Carthage, is under investigation for allegedly driving while intoxicated and possible other charges.
Joplin Police were in the process of investigating a possible D.U.I. incident in the 800 block of South Rex Street this morning after receiving a call about a driver being passed out in a car and partially blocking a driveway.
The driver fled the scene in his vehicle, heading north on Rex, then east on East 7th Street.
The wreck took place shortly before 9 a.m. at the intersection of East 7th Street and S. Duquesne Road.
The driver and lone occupant of a vehicle hit by the car involved in the pursuit was transported to a Joplin hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
The driver of the car involved in the original chase was also taken to a hospital where he is police custody.
A third vehicle, reported to be a minivan, was also hit at the intersection.
Authorities continue to investigate the accident. More details will be released as they become available.
