Anonymous option Missouri lottery winners
Bipartisan legislation that gives Missouri Lottery winners the option to remain anonymous will be signed by the governor today.
The Missouri Lottery’s current practice is to post the names of prize winners to the lottery website, to announce the winnings.
That will change, when GOP Governor Mike Parson signs the bill today from Florissant Democratic husband-and-wife lawmakers Jay and Angela Mosley.
Under their bill, the lottery winners could still have their names announced, but it would be the lottery winner’s decision.
Representative Jay Mosley tells Missourinet that some Lottery winners have been harassed and threatened. The House approved the bill 149-0, and the Senate approved it 33-0.
The Missouri Press Association (MPA) opposes the bill, saying announcing a Lottery winner’s name builds trust.
