Flash flooding damages several homes, businesses in Seneca
Storms over the weekend resulted in flooding in Seneca, about 18 miles south of Joplin on Highway 43.
Several homes in the city and businesses in downtown Seneca were flooded early Saturday morning when a line of thunderstorms dumped nearly six inches of rain on the area.
A section of homes had to be evacuated as the waters rose. Several roads were temporarily shut down but no injuries were reported.
The Seneca Police Department took note of flooding Saturday morning and asked people to stay away from downtown area unless absolutely necessary.
A statement on the Department’s Facebook page said that several water rescues had already taken place in the area.
