Tuition rate going up at Missouri Southern State University

No increase at Pitt State . . .

Tuition is going up for the fall semester at Missouri Southern State University.

The MSSU Board of Governors voted unanimously for a $10 per credit hour increase at the group’s meeting last week.

Pittsburg State University chose to have no increase in tuition, following approval of that action by the Kansas Board of Regents.

Missouri Southern’s 4 percent hike is almost double the amount of the tuition increase in Joplin last year.

In all, the rate at MSSU will be just under $259 per credit hour for undergraduates. Out of state tuition will be just under $530 per credit hour.

Graduate student tuition will remain the same at $350 per credit hour as will the $50 per credit hour rate for dual credit classes.

At Pittsburg State, full-time, in-state undergraduate tuition will remain at $2,918 per semester, the same flat rate as last year.

Tuition increases in Missouri have been capped by law for the last few years.

However, a bill on Gov. Parson’s desk, once signed, would totally remove tuition caps at state-funded institutions in Missouri for the next 5 years.

Rates would then be the decision of each institution’s governing board.
