One dead, four injured in Kafir Road accident

One person is dead and four others are hospitalized after a minivan crashed into a tree on Kafir Road just north of Oronogo around 2 a.m. Sunday morning.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the minivan traveled off the right side of the roadway, returned to the roadway, crossed the centerline, overcorrected and struck a tree.

The Patrol says Victor Alexandrios, whose age is unknown,  was pronounced dead at the scene.

Saul Irahate, whose age is also unknown, was taken to Freeman West.

20-year-old Brenda Lopez Escobar, 21-year-old Aracely Mejia and 24-year old Gladys Oxlath were all transported to Mercy Joplin in serious condition.
