City of Joplin to hold day of remembrance in memory of Joplin Tornado Saturday, May 22

Several events will take place through out the day

The City of Joplin is planning a day of remembrance for the 10th anniversary of the Joplin Tornado.

First, the morning of Saturday, May 22,  the 10th running of the Joplin Memorial Run will be held in observance of those who passed away due to the event.

Later that day, a gathering will be held in Cunningham Park.

This gathering will be at 5:15 PM and will honor the 161 lives that were lost with a name-reading ceremony.

Former Governor Jay Nixon will also speak.

Due to the events, a portion of 26th street will be closed, starting at Maiden Lane and ending at Pitcher Avenue/St. John’s Boulevard.
