Attempted 2nd degree murder charges filed Parsons KS
One persons was arrested in Parsons Kansas on various charges including attempted second degree murder charges following a shooting at a Main Street convenience store. Read the full Parsons Police news release below.
On May 11th at approximately 10:16pm Parsons Police were notified of a shooting at 1430 Main, Pete’s. Dispatch received multiple 911 and administrative calls about the shooting. Officers responded to the scene and found the victim, Chelsea Shultz, had been battered but not shot.
Officers spoke to victims and witnesses of the incident and were able to view video footage. They found that a black male who is known to the victim by the name of “Exotic,” who was identified later as Levonie Quintett Bush, was involved in an argument over alleged stolen property with Shultz in the store. The two exited the store and “Exotic,” Bush, punched Shultz, knocking her to the ground. Shultz was able to get up to and make her way past Bush to her vehicle in the parking lot.
Bush then walked away from Shultz and turned, pulling a black pistol pointing it at Shultz and fired the weapon multiple times. There were 10 shell casings recovered at the scene. Bush then left walking north from the scene. One of the rounds struck Shultz’s vehicle. The remaining rounds appeared to have ricochet off of the ground and the Pete’s building.
The victim was able to identify the shooter’s possible location and police responded to a residence in the 700 block of North Central. During the investigation, officers were given consent of the homeowner to search the residence for Bush, where he was located and arrested. Officers applied for, and were granted a search warrant, by a Labette County Judge, to locate the clothing that was worn during the shooting and the weapon that was used. All of which were located in the residence where Bush was arrested.
The homeowner, Tammy Farran, was arrested for Interference with Law Enforcement, while Levonie Quintett Bush a.k.a. “Exotic” was arrested for Attempted 2nd Degree Murder, Aggravated Battery, Criminal Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Criminal Discharge of a Firearm, Interference with Law Enforcement (Resisting Arrest), Interference with Law Enforcement (Destroying Evidence), Possession of Marijuana, and 3 counts of Aggravated Endangerment of a Child.
Three children were in a vehicle in the parking lot while Bush was recklessly firing the weapon. Shultz was transported to the Labette Health Emergency Department for treatment from the Aggravated Battery by personal vehicle after speaking to officers.
Parsons Police Lieutenant Detective Sherri McGuire said, “Officers did a great job collecting evidence and gathering witness information to make a speedy arrest of this violent offender. We are lucky that no one was hit during this careless and dangerous act.”
Deputy Chief Dennis Dodd said, “Here we have another violent offender that was released from Kansas Department of Corrections in 2017 for a Robbery. He has placed himself in our city and is committing more crimes. Police are only one part of the criminal justice system and we need the support of the judicial system to keep violent offenders from hurting innocent lives.”
