MO proposed gas tax increase

With five days left to go in this legislative session, a Missouri House committee has passed a proposed gas tax increase.

The proposal, sponsored by Senate President Dave Schatz, now heads to the House floor. It would boost the fuel tax 2.5 cents per year for five years. The legislation also includes a rebate option for those who want their money back for the amount of the increase.

The tax hike would help to cover maintenance costs for Missouri’s roads and bridges. It is expected to raise more than 500-million dollars annually in additional funding.
