Saturday crash in Newton County involving mail carrier vehicle results in injuries to both drivers

The incident occurred just after 11 AM

Two people were injured on Saturday during a crash that took place in Newton County on Route P and Eland Road.

The incident occurred just after 11 AM.

A Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report says that a 1990 Chevrolet mail carrier, driven by 29-year-old Joplin resident Shelia Hampshire was driving eastbound.

Vehicle 2, driven by 57-year-old Douglas Williams, was traveling westbound.

The incident started when Hampshire turned into the path of Williams, which prompted Williams to try and avoid the collision, but resulted in the crash occurring at the intersection anyway.

Hampshire was not wearing a seat belt; she received serious injuries and was transported by ambulance to Mercy Joplin for treatment.

Williams received minor injuries while wearing his seat-belt and was transported by ambulance to Mercy Joplin for treatment of minor injuries.
