Man in custody for Thursday morning robbery at custard shop
Following is a news release from the Joplin Police Public Information Officer:
On April 22, 2021 at 9:51 pm the Joplin Police Department Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call to Andy’s Frozen Custard located at 2934 S Range Line Road about an armed robbery that had just occurred.
A male entered the business wearing a black mask and handed an employee a note. The employee realized that this was an attempt at a robbery and immediately began to call police. The male then displayed a knife and lunged at the employee and then fled the business. No money was taken, and no one was hurt.
Officers arrived on scene and began investigating. Officers were able to track the male to a location close to the crime scene. The male was taken into custody at this time. A short time after the male was taken into custody the male attempted to flee from officers. A police K9 was utilized, and he was again apprehended a short distance away.
The suspect, 24-year-old Kevin Miller (pictured), is currently in custody at the Joplin City Jail. The Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney has filed charges of 1st Degree Armed Robbery, Armed Criminal Action, and Attempted Escape from Custody While Under Arrest for a Felony.
