Person found shot to death inside Springfield home

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) – Police in Springfield say a woman has been found shot to death inside an apartment, and a man has been arrested in the case.

Police report that officers were called Thursday night to the apartment, where they found 26-year-old Dominique Lucious suffering from gunshot wounds.

Lucious was pronounced dead at the scene. A short time late, police arrested 28-year-old Charles Nelson, also of Springfield, on suspicion of second-degree murder.

Police have not said what led to the shooting.

Police say Lucious was a transgender woman. Advocacy group Human Rights Campaign has noted that violence against transgender people is on the rise, with 44 transgender and gender nonconforming people killed in 2020 in the US the most since the group began tracking such incidents in 2013.
