Crawford County fire victim identified, name released

The victim of a house fire last week in Crawford County has been identified.

Sheriff Danny Smith says the victim of the fire that occurred the morning of April 4, 2021 was positively identified as Sara Etzold, 39 of Mulberry, Kan.   

A completed autopsy and official cause of death are pending. 

Shortly before 4 a.m. on April 4, the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a house fire located at 143 South 250th Street. Deputies, EMS and Fire responded to the structure fire.

While extinguishing the fire, an adult female victim now identified as Etzold was found deceased in the residence. Investigators from the State Fire Marshal’s Office were contacted and responded to the scene.

The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time and the investigation is ongoing.
