Kansas man ruled incompetent to stand trial

Prosecutors say 22-year-old Jeremy Williams of Lawrence, Kansas drove a car into a lake while his mother was inside.

He was charged with second degree attempted murder.

Now, a Douglas county judge says Williams is incompetent to stand trial and should be treated at the Larned State Hospital.

A caller who reported seeing the car go into the lake rescued Williams’ mother, who could not escape because she had a broken leg.

Williams’ case will remain pending while he receives treatment.
