Oklahoma deputy sheriff dies after altercation with inmate

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. (AP) – A Washington County deputy sheriff has died after an altercation with a jail inmate. Washington County.

Undersheriff Jon Copeland says 39-year-old Cpl. Kyle Davis died Thursday after the fight inside the county jail.

Copeland says the suspect, 36-year-old Athine Jamuan Henderson, was one of 17 people arrested Thursday as part of an investigation into illegal drugs.

They say Henderson became aggressive toward jail personnel and an altercation ensued.

Davis was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died.

Henderson is currently being held in a jail in a neighboring county.
