Appeals Court backs deportation of student from Ghana
DENVER (AP) – A Denver federal appeals court is backing the deportation of a student from Ghana who was jailed on a rape allegation he was later acquitted of.
The court ruled Tuesday that Daniel Awuku-Asare failed to meet the requirements of his student visa and maintain a full course of studies while he was jailed.
The ruling stated he was charged with rape and arrested soon after he transferred to an Oklahoma Bible college in 2017.
He argued his incarceration was beyond his control.
The appeals court said the law doesn’t require that someone actively violate visa requirements to be deported.
