Freeman to close medical COVID-19 unit
Decline in Coronavirus patient numbers cited
JOPLIN, MO – Freeman Health System is closing its medical COVID-19 unit after the last four patients were discharged Monday.
Freeman has seen significant patient volumes decrease to a level that they can serve patients in one combined medical unit. This enables staff to use these hospital beds for other patients.
Currently, Freeman has no patients in the medical COVID-19 unit and just three patients in the COVID-19 intensive care unit.
Freeman Neosho Hospital is caring for just one coronavirus patient.
Freeman officials and nurses working in the medical COVID-19 unit will discuss the impact of the closure on duty, scheduling, morale and more at a briefing planned for later today.
